The Calspan Advanced Maneuvering and Upset Recovery Training (AM-URT) program provides training and confidence to recover from Jet Upsets. In-Flight Simulation offers the missing link between the cockpit accuracy of the ground simulator and the real-world look and feel of actually flying the jet. The integrated training includes classroom instruction and in-flight training in one or both of the Calspan aerobatic Beech Bonanza and Learjet In-flight Simulator.
Simulated failures and disturbances can be injected into the programmable flight control system of the Learjet in order to provide instruction to pilots on how to control an airplane in the presence of such failures. With over a decade of experience in this field, Calspan has found that it is critical for pilots to experience these events in the presence of real world accelerations and flight stresses, and for pilots to learn "alternate control strategies" so as to prepare them for flight situations in which an airplane does NOT respond properly to normal control techniques.
